The New York Knicks have quietly brought in two potentially important additions: Jose Alvarado and Jeremy Sochan.
Every trade deadline, the New York Knicks are one of the teams linked with the league’s biggest superstars. The same happened in recent months — there were quiet rumors about their interest in Giannis Antetokounmpo. As many times before, the blockbuster deal never happened. Perhaps logically so, since the Knicks already have a structured and mature roster that currently sits near the top of the Eastern Conference.
Still, additional reinforcements ahead of decisive playoff battles are always welcome. That’s why the Knicks made two moves that didn’t draw much attention: they brought in Jose Alvarado and Jeremy Sochan. And when it comes to the undersized Puerto Rican playmaker, the move already seems to be paying off.

INSTANT IMPACT IN NEW YORK 🗽
26 points, 8 threes and 5 steals in his third game with the Knicks! pic.twitter.com/1HC77o3VQi
He arrived via a trade in which the Knicks sent two second-round picks and Dalen Terry — a player who wasn’t particularly important in their plans. In just three games, Alvarado has already exploded. In the latest game against the Philadelphia 76ers, he became the first player ever to record 25+ points, 8+ three-pointers and 5+ steals off the bench. He did it in only 18 minutes, while the Knicks won by nearly 40 points.
As for Jeremy Sochan, it was announced yesterday that he will sign with the Knicks after completing a buyout with the San Antonio Spurs. The former No. 9 pick of the 2022 Draft didn’t fully meet expectations in San Antonio. The Spurs are currently competitive at the top and don’t have much rotation space for him. However, New York believes he could be a useful player in their system.

The Polish forward isn’t a high-level scorer, but he brings strong defensive qualities and often fills up every statistical category. Potentially, as a back-end rotation piece, he could turn into a very smart signing with minimal risk.
Jose Alvarado is known as an elite defender (nickname GTA — Grand Theft Alvarado), but he has also significantly improved his offensive game. With the New Orleans Pelicans having a disastrous season, he no longer had much of a role there. Now he’ll be competing at the top and should have a clear bench role — where he usually provides his biggest impact.
Although they didn’t land a superstar, the Knicks probably don’t need one with their current roster. They have plenty of elements and depth to compete for the NBA Finals. They currently sit at 35–20, third in the East, and have a huge ambition to bring the title back to the city after more than 50 years.
