Kazakhstan vs Philippines Preview
We remember the old days of Kazakhstan when they were led by a very solid domestic core and their naturalized import Anthony Clemmons. However, following their latest failures, they finally appeared in a FIBA-sanctioned competition at the end of last month, when they were hosting the FIBA Asia Cup Pre-Qualifiers. They played without a naturalized foreign player, but with more or less their strongest domestic cast and managed to qualify although they did lose to Palestine and didn´t have a flawless W-L record as expected. For these Asian Games, they have put together a mix of young talents and international veterans as they are led by names like Ivanov, Kuanov and Bykov. However, they are far from the level they were showing a couple of years ago and are without a foreign scorer, so they are very vulnerable. As expected, they lost their opening game to the powerhouse squad of China as they were hammered 99:61. Simply, they don´t have enough to keep up with the main heavyweights of Asian basketball at the moment and they will have an impossible task of progressing from their group as Bahrain, the Philippines and China are all better than them.
Kazakhstan are one of weaker teams in this competition with no real star scorers. They are relying on a domestic core from a couple of the best clubs in their local league, which is simply not enough to compete at this level. The Philippines are not playing with their ideal roster but have plenty of quality and experience to easily blow out Kazakhstan today.
The Philippines faced all kinds of troubles ahead of the Asian Games. Their head coach Tim Cone was stubborn and was waiting on the naturalized star import Justin Brownlee to recover from injuries and join their team, but he didn´t arrive as he is not yet ready. This left Gilas Pilipinas shorthanded as no other naturalized player managed to come down and play for them. Also, the roster that the Philippines have is their B team, without the key domestic stars from Japan and Korea, who are not allowed to play at this competition because it is not under the control of FIBA. The Filipino team had a tumultuous preparation period, losing heavily twice to South Korea and their worries were prolonged in the opening game against Bahrain as they didn´t really threaten and lost 89:85. Ahead of that match, Gilas had a difficult time because their last training was cancelled due to the weather and flooding in Nagoya, but despite these issues, the tournament is taking place. Today, the Philippines simply need to win against an inferior Kazakh side that is a class below them as a potential loss today would cause severe backlash by Filipino fans, who are disappointed after the initial loss to Bahrain.
The loss in a very serious matchup against Bahrain proves that the Filipino team doesn´t have what it takes to fight for the gold medal. They might be able to scrape the bronze with their individual quality and coaching expertise, but overall, we don´t see them as one of the main title favourites.
Kazakhstan vs Philippines H2H
The Philippines have been historically dominant in their head-to-head matchups versus Kazakhstan as they have managed to win six out of seven times they faced the Kazakh team.
Injuries and Suspensions
Kazakhstan are fielding more or less their strongest lineup with a couple of exceptions. The Philippines are essentially playing with their B selection as all of their main stars from abroad and some of the biggest names from their domestic PBA league are missing along with all of their naturalized players.

Kazakhstan vs Philippines Best Betting Tip and Prediction
This game is an absolute must-win for the Philippines. They got dominated against Bahrain and we believe they will vent their anger today versus the group outsiders and achieve an emphatic victory. The Philippines are not at their best currently, but their sheer class should prevail against a limited side like Kazakhstan.
