Panathinaikos will begin their preseason without Kendrick Nunn after the former EuroLeague MVP suffered a knee injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for six to eight weeks.
Nunn picked up the injury during individual workouts in the United States and subsequently underwent surgery on his right knee.
The timing represents an early setback for a Panathinaikos team that is entering a new era under Zeljko Obradovic, who has returned to the club after 14 years.
Kendrick Nunn undergoes successful knee surgery
Panathinaikos confirmed that Nunn suffered a medial meniscus tear in his right knee during his individual training sessions.
The American guard underwent an arthroscopic procedure on Wednesday, with the club providing a positive update regarding the operation.
“Kendrick Nunnm suffered a medial meniscus tear in his right knee during his individual workouts in the USA, and on Wednesday (19/8), he immediately underwent a successful arthroscopic partial meniscectomy.”
The injury is not expected to keep Nunn out for an extended period.
According to the club’s medical assessment, the 30-year-old guard is expected to require approximately six to eight weeks to complete his rehabilitation.
That timeline means Nunn could return shortly after the beginning of October, limiting the number of competitive games he is expected to miss.
GET WELL SOON, KENDRICK 💚

Nunn remains one of Panathinaikos’ most important players
The injury is nevertheless significant because Kendrick Nunn enters the new season as one of the most important pieces of the Panathinaikos roster.
The American guard was the team’s leading scorer in the EuroLeague last season, averaging 18.3 points, 3.5 assists and 2.7 rebounds across 37 appearances.
His scoring ability and shot creation have made him one of the most difficult guards to defend in European basketball.
Panathinaikos will therefore be hoping that his rehabilitation progresses without complications and that he can return to full fitness early in the campaign.
Major changes in Athens this summer
Nunn’s injury comes during one of the biggest periods of change Panathinaikos have experienced in recent years.
The club parted ways with Ergin Ataman and brought back Zeljko Obradovic, who returns to the team 14 years after his previous spell in Athens.
Obradovic’s arrival represents a major change in direction for the Greek powerhouse and will bring enormous expectations ahead of the new campaign.
Panathinaikos have also been extremely active in the transfer market.
Panathinaikos add major names to the roster
The Greek club have strengthened several areas of the roster with a series of high-profile additions.
Among the newcomers are Guerschon Yabusele, who arrives from the NBA, Brancou Badio from Valencia and Sylvain Francisco from Asvel.
Panathinaikos have also signed Isaac Bonga from Partizan and Moustapha Fall from Olympiacos.
Those additions give Obradovic considerable depth as he prepares to implement his system and build a new-look Panathinaikos team. All Panathinaikos roster moves can be followed on the EuroLeague Transactions tracker.
For now, however, the immediate priority will be Nunn’s recovery.
The club have reason to remain optimistic given the expected six-to-eight-week rehabilitation period, but the former EuroLeague MVP will miss a significant part of preseason and could be unavailable when Panathinaikos begin their competitive schedule.
