The Los Angeles Lakers have struck a deal to acquire Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets, parting ways with Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, and future draft picks.
The agreement, which has yet to be officially finalized, includes the Lakers sending their 2031 first-round pick and a 2030 first-round pick swap to Charlotte.
Williams’ arrival fills a key void for the Lakers, who were left thin at the center position after trading Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks. With Christian Wood sidelined due to injury, Jaxson Hayes had been the team’s only experienced big man.
Williams has battled injuries during his time with the Hornets, appearing in just 84 games across three seasons due to back problems. However, when healthy, he has demonstrated significant promise. This season, he is averaging 16 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game through 22 appearances, excelling in pick-and-roll situations alongside LaMelo Ball.
Williams has a connection with Lakers head coach JJ Redick from their shared Duke roots, which could ease his transition.
His presence in Los Angeles will also provide Luka Doncic with a reliable lob target and defensive anchor as the Lakers reshape their roster post-Davis.
