However, Macau have lost both of their opening games as they were mauled by the NLEX Road Warriors (114:75) and then lost 123:109 against the Fajardo-less San Miguel Beermen. The main problem of the Pandas is the fact that they are playing severely shorthanded. The domestic players from Macau who are currently featuring are not their best domestic pieces as their main stars are either injured or absent because of various reasons. They are also missing one of their imports, Phoenix Shackleford, so these opening losses come as no surprise. In the opener against NLEX, they had no chance against Jimmy Alapag´s machine, while against the shorthanded Beermen, who were without June Mar Fajardo, they showed some improvement and were even leading after the first half. However, they could not withstand the onslaught of the Beer in the second half as they conceded 123 points and lost by double-digits.
The Giant Pandas are playing with a depleted roster and only have three offensive options, import De´Vondre Perry along with Damian Chongqui and Kobey Lam, who hold double citizenships. The rest of their squad is extremely modest and simply not good enough to handle these top Filipino sides. There have been a lot of unexpected roster movements and surprises so far in the Governors´ Cup, but even if Macau field some of their stars who were absent in the initial two games, they are still inferior compared to the FiberXers.
The Converge FiberXers have been superb so far as they easily took down the weakened and decimated lineup of the Titan Ultra Giant Risers along with narrowly beating Terrafirma on Wednesday. They hold a massive edge over Macau because they have their full roster available and also possess much better chemistry. Compared to the head-to-head clash from the Commissioner´s Cup, when Converge won by eight, the Giant Pandas are now clearly weaker, so we are expecting a double-digit victory for the FiberXers.
Converge are no longer a dark horse. They are now a legitimate PBA threat and are expected to win today´s match routinely against an inferior opponent struggling with absences. Macau tried something against San Miguel, but in that game, it was visible they have no offensive nor defensive identity and just rely on the individual class of their import and players with a double passport.
