They signed some big guns and had high hopes ahead of the new campaign, but they couldn´t stabilize their form in the first month of the season. However, since mid-April things finally started to click as the Jets won four straight games, which is currently enough for fourth place in the standings with a 7-4 W-L record. The absolute leader and main star of Manawatu is the best domestic player in the league Corey Webster, who is supported by three quality imports. However, the Jets lack any depth on the bench because they maxed out their budget on their starting five and that should cost them in the long run.
Manawatu are in great form and possess one of the best starting fives in the league. On the other hand, their opponents are going through a lot of turmoil with their roster and are in poor form, so the Jets should be opened as routine favourites at home.
As usual, in the offseason the Nelson Giants switched all three of their imports and announced a big season. However, things have gone completely south for them at the start of the campaign. So far, the Giants have only notched one victory and currently sit near the bottom of the standings in eleventh place with a measly 1-8 W-L record. Because of the horrible start, the Giants decided to switch their imports early into the season. Couple of weeks ago, they brought in Jeremy Combs and AJ Robinson and started playing better which culminated with their first win of the season in the last round against Otago.
Nelson are looking better with their new imports, but they are still below the level of the in-form hosts. While we are writing this analysis the odds still haven´t been published. Overall, the Jets are better and should be able to carve out a victory in front of their home fans.
