Manchester Basketball has officially confirmed via the club’s official website its participation in the upcoming FIBA Champions League qualification rounds.
Last season, Manchester Basketball became the first professional franchise from Manchester to compete in European competition since the 1990s, making history in the process. The club concluded the campaign as runners-up in the European Northern Basketball League (ENBL).
The club’s CEO, Claire Bradbury, commented on the news:
“We had a fantastic season in the ENBL last year, reaching the European final in the franchise’s first-ever European campaign. Entering the FIBA Champions League qualifiers sends a clear message about our ambitions.”
She continued:
“Manchester’s participation in European competitions has been an ambition of the ownership group since the franchise was taken over. There is a strong appetite for top-level sport in Manchester, and we are proud to represent the city and British basketball on the European stage. We would like to thank FIBA and Manchester City Council for their support in the continued development of the sport we love.”
FIBA has announced that 24 clubs will take part in the qualification round, split into two tournaments, with the winners of each tournament securing a place in the regular season. The Qualification Round tournaments will take place from September 14 to 20, while the Regular Season will get underway on October 6, 2026.
