Matthew Strazel, Monaco player, has been suspended by the decision of the LNB Pro A’s Disciplinary Committee and will not be able to help his team in the decisive Game 5 of the domestic league final.
Strazel was ejected late in Game 3 of the series after telling referee Mehdi Difallah that he was a “cheat.”
No emergency procedure was initiated, which allowed the guard to be part of the team in Game 4. However, the Commission met on Monday and decided to suspend the Frenchman for one game (with an additional suspended game) due to his behavior toward the official. The punishment is expected to be served in the “decider.”
Unlike him, Alpha Diallo avoided suspension, even though he was also ejected late in Game 3, which is a relief for Monaco.
However, Monaco are not accepting Strazel’s suspension. According to BeBasket, the club’s lawyer immediately launched an appeal and requested a suspensive effect.
As previously reported, Monaco players had reportedly threatened to boycott the “decider” if both Strazel and Diallo were suspended. Now that only one of them has been sanctioned, it remains to be seen how the locker room will react.
Paris will host Monaco in Game 5 for the French championship title on Tuesday at 9:10 PM.
