Milwaukee Bucks star guard Damian Lillard has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in his right calf, the team announced.
This serious condition, which involves a blood clot forming in a deep vein, will sideline the veteran playmaker indefinitely—a significant blow to Milwaukee’s championship aspirations.
The positive news, however, is that Damian Lillard is receiving blood-thinning medication, which has successfully stabilized the clot. He will continue undergoing regular medical evaluations to monitor his recovery.
For the Bucks, this is another frustrating setback in their bid for a deep playoff run. The Lillard-Giannis Antetokounmpo duo was expected to elevate the team into title contention, but injuries have repeatedly disrupted their plans. Last season, Giannis was injured just before the postseason, and now, Lillard is the one facing a critical health issue.
“Damian’s health is our No. 1 priority,” Bucks general manager Jon Horst stated:
“We will support him as he moves through this weekly process of strict criteria to ensure that it is safe for him to return to play. Doctors have indicated that his situation is very unlikely to occur again. We are thankful that this was identified and medicated quickly, which helps with the recovery.”
Despite the reassuring medical outlook, no timeline has been set for Lillard’s return. His absence leaves Milwaukee with a major void at the point guard position as they try to stay competitive in the Eastern Conference.
