Milwaukee Bucks vs Indiana Pacers Preview
The Milwaukee Bucks look disastrous, and the best proof of that is the fact that they have lost eight of their last ten games. While Giannis Antetokounmpo was absent there was at least a legitimate reason for why they were this bad, but even with him on the court they have not looked impressive. They hold a 27-39 record and sit 11th in the Eastern Conference standings, which is seven wins fewer than the tenth placed Charlotte Hornets, so their chances of reaching at least the play-in exist only on paper, not in reality.
Before this game they suffered a heavy 122-99 loss to the Atlanta Hawks, which marked the Hawks’ ninth consecutive victory. Giannis Antetokounmpo also missed this game, with the decision being made right before tipoff, so without him they simply had no chance against a team that is currently in the best form in the NBA. Ryan Rollins stood out with 22 points and eight assists, while Kevin Porter Jr. recorded 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, but it was simply not enough. There is no need to discuss any statistical parameters regarding the Bucks given the situation they are in, because the atmosphere within the franchise is clearly not good. The saga surrounding speculation about whether Giannis would leave or stay ended with him remaining, at least until the summer, but regardless of whether he stays or not, something will have to change because the current roster does not have the capacity for major success.
The Indiana Pacers gave up on this season a long time ago and that is no secret. They have just 15 wins and as many as 52 losses and are the worst team in the NBA. The main reason for that is the injury to Tyrese Haliburton, who will miss the entire season, so they realized early on that achieving any meaningful result was simply not realistic. As a result, they turned toward tanking and already began shaping their roster for next season when they will try to accomplish something more substantial. According to all statistical metrics they rank near the bottom, which is not surprising considering their results.
It is also important to mention the most significant roster changes they made during this period. Bennedict Mathurin left the team and joined the Los Angeles Clippers, while the Pacers acquired one of the best two way centers in the NBA, as Ivica Zubac moved from the Clippers to Indiana. In addition, they had already parted ways with Myles Turner earlier, and once they realized that achieving any solid results without Haliburton was impossible, they decided to tank and focus on the upcoming NBA draft in order to secure the best possible position to select a young player. The upcoming draft class is considered one of the most talented in the past several years. The only bright spot for the Pacers this season, at least statistically, has been Pascal Siakam, who fills every category on the stat sheet and is averaging 24 points, seven rebounds and nearly four assists in 55 games played while averaging 33 minutes per game.
