Monaco continue their efforts to secure a place in French basketball competitions next season after taking their case to the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF).
The reigning French champions announced that they have started a conciliation procedure following the latest decision from the French Basketball Federation’s Appeals Chamber, which prevented the club from participating in the 2026-27 LNB Pro A season.
“Following the decision of the FFBB Appeals Chamber, AS Monaco Basket-Ball S.A. has referred the matter to the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF), initiating a conciliation procedure in order to secure a review of the club’s admission to the 2026-27 Betclic ELITE championship,” Monaco stated.
The move represents the latest attempt by the club to overturn the decision that currently blocks them from competing in either the top division or the LNB Pro B league.
Monaco continue fight after financial concerns
Monaco’s problems began on July 3, when the DNCCG, the financial regulator overseeing French basketball clubs, initially refused to approve the team’s participation in professional competitions.
The organization questioned the club’s financial guarantees and expressed concerns regarding Monaco’s long-term economic stability, as well as the uncertainty surrounding the proposed ownership change.
After appealing the decision, Monaco received additional time to provide further documentation and strengthen their restructuring plan.
Although there was optimism that the revised takeover package could satisfy the financial requirements, the FFBB Appeals Chamber ultimately confirmed the decision to exclude Monaco from LNB competitions for the upcoming season.
The club has now turned to CNOSF in an attempt to reopen the case.

Jamal Mashburn remains key figure in Monaco project
Former NBA All-Star Jamal Mashburn continues to lead the proposed takeover of Monaco, which would mark a major change in the club’s structure.
The initial plan reportedly involved an operating budget between €10 million and €12.5 million, but financial authorities considered the proposal insufficiently secure without additional guarantees.
Monaco have since worked to reinforce the project and prove that Mashburn’s investment group can provide sustainable financial support.
The takeover would represent a significant transformation for a club that previously operated with one of the biggest budgets in European basketball.
Monaco spent heavily in recent seasons, reached the EuroLeague playoffs five consecutive times, and became one of the continent’s most ambitious projects. However, financial difficulties forced major changes, including their move from the EuroLeague to the EuroCup and the departure of several important players.
Monaco determined to explore every option
Despite the latest setback, Monaco have made it clear that they are not giving up on their goal of remaining in France’s top division.
“The club remains fully committed to exploring all legal avenues available under French sports law, while continuing its restructuring process in close cooperation with its institutional partners,” Monaco said.
At the moment, the club remains without approval to participate in either of France’s professional leagues for the 2026-27 season.
The next step will depend on the CNOSF conciliation process and whether Monaco can convince authorities that the new ownership structure and financial guarantees are sufficient for a return to French basketball’s top level.
