Monaco are attempting to accelerate their appeal process as the club continues its battle to secure a place in France’s professional basketball system for the 2026-27 season.
The reigning LNB Pro A champions remain prohibited by the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) from entering a professional competition next season, leaving the club’s future uncertain just weeks before the new campaign is due to begin.
Monaco have already taken their case to the CNOSF, but the conciliation hearing is currently scheduled for August 25 – a date the club believes comes too late.
The organization is now asking for the hearing to be brought forward in an attempt to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
Monaco want CNOSF hearing moved forward
Monaco’s legal team has formally requested an earlier hearing, with club lawyer Xavier Lecerf-Galle explaining why the current timetable is causing concern.
“I asked for the hearing to be brought forward because the August 25 date is very late.”
The conciliation process will bring together representatives from several sides, including the CNOSF, the FFBB, the French professional league and Monaco.
The objective for Monaco is straightforward: convince the relevant authorities to reconsider the decision preventing the club from participating in a professional championship.
Until that happens, the reigning French champions remain in an extremely unusual position.
Monaco still fighting for professional status
Monaco’s exclusion stems from concerns surrounding the club’s financial situation and its ability to satisfy the requirements for participation in France’s professional competitions.
The club has been working on a new ownership and investment structure in an attempt to resolve those issues.
One of the main proposals involves former NBA All-Star Jamal Mashburn, whose investment group has been working toward taking control of the basketball project.
Monaco had hoped that the proposed takeover would provide the financial stability required to overcome the concerns raised by French basketball authorities.
The club is therefore seeking a fresh assessment of its eligibility based on the new circumstances.
Ronaldinho also emerged as potential investor
The ownership situation became even more complicated earlier this week when Brazilian football icon Ronaldinho reportedly entered the race to invest in Monaco.
Ronaldinho is understood to be linked with an investment proposal backed by Clayton Sport, an Andorran investment fund.
His emergence added another potential route for Monaco as the club searches for the financial backing needed to secure its future.
However, the immediate priority remains the CNOSF process.
Monaco need a decision as quickly as possible because the current August 25 hearing would leave very little time to resolve the situation before the start of the new season.
Reigning French champions face uncertain future
The situation is particularly remarkable because Monaco enter the offseason as the defending LNB Pro A champions.
The club has established itself as one of the strongest teams in European basketball in recent years and has become a regular contender in the EuroLeague.
Yet, despite its success on the court, Monaco’s participation in the French domestic competition next season remains unresolved.
