Barcelona are facing another offseason setback, with Moses Wright’s expected arrival now in doubt due to the club’s ongoing uncertainty.
The Catalan giants had been expected to complete a major roster overhaul this summer, but according to Sport, the situation around the team has become increasingly complicated, with Wright’s future now among the biggest concerns.
The American center had already reached an agreement with Barcelona and even publicly expressed his feelings about joining the club, but the ongoing uncertainty over the next head coach could put the deal at risk.
Moses Wright move to Barcelona could collapse
Moses Wright emerged as one of the best centers in the EuroLeague last season after an impressive campaign with Zalgiris, averaging 13.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
Barcelona viewed him as one of the key pieces of their new-look roster, with his arrival expected to be one of the biggest EuroLeague transactions of the offseason, alongside other reported additions such as Josh Nebo and Olivier Nkamhoua.
However, Sport reports that several clubs are now monitoring the situation and could be ready to activate the exit clause included in Wright’s contract with Barcelona.
The main issue is believed to be the uncertainty surrounding the club’s direction, especially the lack of a head coach for the upcoming season. Barcelona and Wright had an agreement in place for months, but the delay in finalizing the coaching situation has created doubts about whether the move will eventually be completed.

Nine departures leave Barcelona with a depleted roster
Barcelona had planned a major rebuild after another disappointing season, and the changes have already started.
The club has confirmed nine departures, including:
- Jan Vesely, who retired
- Tomas Satoransky
- Miles Norris
- Myles Cale
- Juani Marcos
- Willy Hernangomez
- Youssoupha Fall
- Nicolas Laprovittola
- Will Clyburn
Those exits have left Barcelona with only six players currently under contract:
- Juan Nunez
- Kevin Punter
- Dario Brizuela
- Joel Parra
- Tornike Shengelia
Head caoch position and Paolo Galbiati case
The biggest issue for Barcelona remains the head coaching position. The club had identified Paolo Galbiati as their preferred option and was working on bringing him to Palau Blaugrana.
However, the situation became complicated after Baskonia decided not to let him leave easily.
Galbiati was reportedly already set to leave Baskonia, with the club preparing the arrival of Velimir Perasovic as his replacement. But Barcelona’s interest changed the situation, turning the Italian coach into a valuable asset for the Vitoria club.
Baskonia are now demanding a significant buyout fee, reportedly close to €1 million, to release Galbiati. Barcelona did not want to pay that amount, and the negotiations have stalled. As a result, the club remains without a head coach, while the offseason clock continues to run.
Barcelona also searching for a new general manager
The uncertainty is not limited to the coaching position. Barcelona are also working to appoint a new general manager, with the club targeting Baskonia executive Xevi Pujol as their preferred option.
However, just like in the Paolo Galbiati situation, Baskonia are not willing to let him leave easily and are demanding significant compensation for his departure.
