The New York Knicks ended the Los Angeles Lakers’ impressive 18-game streak with a 112–110 win on Sunday.
The Lakers had been 18–0 this season when leading at halftime, heading into the game at Madison Square Garden.
The Lakers led 56–52 at halftime, which wasn’t a huge cushion, but every time this season they held the lead after two quarters, they had gone on to win—this time, that wouldn’t be the case.
It was also Jalen Brunson’s first-ever head-to-head win against his former teammate Luka Doncic.
Neither LeBron James, nor Luka Doncic, nor Jalen Brunson or Karl-Anthony Towns, but Landry Shamet stole the spotlight. He was the main figure in the matchup between the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers, which after 48 intense and exciting minutes of basketball went to the team from the Big Apple. Shamet proved to be the X-factor, the ace up the sleeve—call it what you will—coming off the bench to score 23 points, including six three-pointers.
The Knicks were particularly brutal in the third quarter, scoring 38 points and taking the key step toward victory.
The Knicks were led by OG Anunoby, who scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
For the Lakers, Luka Doncic carried the team with 30 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists.
With the win, the Knicks improved to a 31–18 record and second place in the Eastern Conference, while the Lakers dropped to 29–19 and sixth place in the West.
