The championship run of the New York Knicks ended a drought that lasted more than 50 years, while also making history in the process.
According to Rodger Sherman, during the series against the San Antonio Spurs, the New York Knicks recorded the first, fourth, and sixth largest comebacks ever in NBA Finals history – all in the same series.
In Game 4, they erased a 29-point deficit before OG Anunoby’s tip-in secured the win and gave them a 3-1 series lead.
In Game 5, which they won to clinch the championship, they came back from a 16-point deficit, marking the fourth-largest comeback in NBA Finals history.
Their sixth-largest comeback came in Game 1, when they overcame a 14-point deficit.
The New York Knicks also achieved something not seen since 1971: they trailed by at least 10 points in every game of the Finals and still managed to win the championship.
The last team to accomplish that feat was the Milwaukee Bucks led by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1971, when they defeated the Baltimore Bullets in the Finals.
