Shengelia was Virtus’ standout performer last season, averaging 15.6 points, 5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 28 EuroLeague games. In Italy’s Serie A, he posted similar numbers—14.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game – solidifying his status as one of the top forwards in Europe.
Throughout his career, Tornike Shengelia has played for several major clubs, including CSKA Moscow, Baskonia, and Valencia in Europe, as well as the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets in the NBA. His early professional years also included stints with Belgian sides Pepinster and Charleroi.
Over the course of his career, Shengelia was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team in 2018. He has won the EuroCup twice – in 2010 with Valencia and in 2022 with Virtus. In 2020, he became a Spanish League champion with Baskonia, and in 2021, he won the VTB League with CSKA Moscow. His most recent title came in mid-June, when he won the Italian Serie A championship with Virtus.
Before Shengelia, Barcelona had already secured two new faces: Juani Marcos from Girona and Myles Cale from Trento. The addition of Shengelia significantly boosts the team’s experience and frontcourt power heading into the new EuroLeague season.
It’s also worth noting that five players have already left Barcelona this summer: James Nnaji, Jabari Parker, Chimezie Metu, Justin Anderson, and Youssoupha Fall.
