Olympiacos have raised questions over the process surrounding Moustapha Fall’s application for a Greek passport, calling on the Greek Basketball Federation (EOK), the General Secretariat of Citizenship and the relevant authorities to provide answers.
The French center began the necessary procedures before the end of the 2025-26 season, with Olympiacos stating that it is awaiting answers from the competent authorities.
Moustapha Fall subsequently left the Piraeus club and joined Panathinaikos, making the issue particularly notable given his move between the two Athens rivals.
Olympiacos raise questions over Fall’s passport application
Olympiacos issued a statement on Friday, August 28, addressing a report concerning Fall’s application for Greek citizenship and a Greek passport.
The club questioned the procedure that was followed and asked the relevant authorities to clarify whether the Greek Basketball Federation was consulted before a positive recommendation was issued and why the relevant circular was allegedly changed.
Olympiacos said:
“We were surprised to read yesterday (27/08) a report claiming that our former player and current Panathinaikos player, Moustapha Fall, falsely stated in an official document submitted to a public authority that he would play for the Greek national team in order to expedite the process of issuing his Greek passport.
In the same report, we learned that following his application, the General Secretariat of Citizenship issued a circular specifically designed to serve him and that a positive recommendation was immediately issued without examining the facts of the case as it should have.
Was a relevant inquiry made to the Greek Basketball Federation before the positive recommendation was issued?
How was it suddenly decided to change the specific circular by the General Secretary of Citizenship, creating a new circular specifically designed for the Panathinaikos player?
The competent authorities should immediately take a position and inform the Greek public about what applies, so that there are no doubts surrounding the matter.”
Fall began the process of obtaining Greek documentation while still an Olympiacos player before eventually making the move to Panathinaikos ahead of the 2026-27 season. The two clubs are among the biggest rivals in Greek basketball, adding further context to Olympiacos’ decision to publicly question the procedure.
