Panathinaikos completes major roster overhaul
The Greens made significant changes to their squad during the offseason, with seven players leaving the club and five new faces arriving.
The official departures are Ergin Ataman, Marius Grigonis, Kenneth Faried, TJ Shorts, Alexandros Samodurov, Cedi Osman and Vassilis Toliopoulos.
Panathinaikos replaced them with Moustapha Fall, Isaac Bonga, Guerschon Yabusele, Brancou Badio and Sylvain Francisco.
The additions give Obradovic a substantially different group from the one that finished the previous campaign, with experience added across several positions.
Fall arrives after spending the previous five seasons with Olympiacos, while Yabusele returns to European basketball following his NBA stint. Bonga and Badio also bring EuroLeague experience, while Francisco joins after establishing himself as one of the continent’s notable guards.
Zeljko Obradovic returns to Panathinaikos
The biggest change, however, comes on the sideline. Obradovic is back as Panathinaikos head coach for the first time since leaving the club in 2012. His return marks the beginning of a new chapter for the seven-time EuroLeague champions.
The Serbian coach built one of the most successful eras in European basketball during his previous spell in Athens, winning five EuroLeague titles with the club.
Panathinaikos will now enter the 2026-27 season with a new-look roster and Obradovic back at the helm as the club looks to challenge for major trophies on both the domestic and European stage.
Injuries already creating problems for Obradovic
Panathinaikos have already started dealing with injury problems during preseason, with Nikos Rogkavopoulos the latest player to be sidelined. The Greek forward suffered a hamstring strain in Friday’s friendly against Maroussi and has started a specific treatment program, with no timetable yet given for his return.
Rogkavopoulos joins Kendrick Nunn, who remains out after undergoing surgery for a medial meniscus tear in his right knee. The Panathinaikos guard is expected to miss six to eight weeks and is unlikely to be available at the start of the season.
Nigel Hayes-Davis is also recovering from a fracture of the fourth metacarpal in his left hand and is expected to be sidelined for around six weeks.
