Paolo Galbiati, the head coach of Baskonia, spoke at the postgame press conference following his team’s loss to Joventut in the Liga Endesa quarterfinals.
With that defeat, Baskonia brought a very unusual season to an end. The team struggled badly in both the EuroLeague and the domestic championship, but still managed to win the Copa del Rey title, which is quite a rare outcome. Paolo Galbiati began his remarks by discussing the game against Joventut.
“Unfortunately, our season ended today. Turnovers destroyed us. Ricky Rubio has been playing at the highest level for 25 years and knows how to handle games like this. For the first time, he made four three-pointers, and we made mistakes in our defensive assignments at crucial moments.”
It was the most difficult season of his coaching career.
“This has been the toughest season of my life, with injuries and everything we have been through. I want to thank the players and the coaching staff for their energy and for everything we accomplished together.”
He also confirmed the departure of several players.
“Unfortunately, this group will break up because many players will leave. We can talk about the game instead of the noise,” Paolo Galbiati concluded.
