NBA commissioner Adam Silver revealed during a roundtable in London regarding NBA Europe that the league wants PSG to be part of its basketball competition, per L’Equipe,
Although Paris Saint-Germain currently does not have a basketball section, NBA Europe’s goal is for PSG to be involved in the competition from the very beginning.
“They compete at the highest level (in football) and have the knowledge and experience to operate a basketball club at the highest level if they are interested. Yes, it’s a club we are talking to,” Silver said.
Adam Silver’s right-hand man, Mark Tatum, then spoke about Paris as a market and its strong foundation for top-level marketing:
“Paris is a market we absolutely want to be in. There’s their ability to create a brand and a culture, as well as their association with the Jordan Brand (Michael Jordan’s), which is closely linked to basketball. We’re looking for the right partners for our project, and PSG brings a very high level of expertise in marketing, promotion, and building a global brand,” Tatum added.
George Aivazoglou, the NBA’s Head of Europe and the Middle East, highlighted the strong performances of current EuroLeague member Paris Basketball:
“Paris is a fascinating market. There is interest from existing stakeholders and from those not yet part of the basketball ecosystem. Paris Basketball didn’t exist a few years ago (founded in 2018) and has managed to energize fans and build a team that is performing very well. Our job is to engage with all of these stakeholders.”
