Partizan vs Real Madrid Preview
In the previous round of the EuroLeague, Partizan pulled off a major upset by defeating Panathinaikos at home in a convincing 78-62 win. With that result, the black-and-whites ended a two-game losing streak in Europe’s elite competition and recorded their third victory in the last five outings. There is no doubt that Joan Penarroya’s team has shown clear signs of progress over the past twenty days, which was further confirmed by an 86-76 win over Dubai in the ABA League. However, Partizan remain far from where they hoped to be in the EuroLeague standings, currently sitting in 16th place with a 9-18 record.
Partizan’s biggest improvement in recent weeks has come on the defensive end. After spending most of the season as the worst defensive team in the league, the black-and-whites rank as the third-best defense over the last five games. They held Panathinaikos to just 62 points, matching their best defensive performance in a EuroLeague game since returning to the competition in 2022. In addition, their offense has been functioning more smoothly and efficiently. Against the Greek powerhouse, Cameron Payne led the way with 18 points, while Isaac Bonga and Sterling Brown added 16 each. Their good form was also confirmed in the important ABA League win over Dubai. Partizan limited a team with the seventh-best offense in the EuroLeague to 76 points, and the hero of that game was undoubtedly Duane Washington Jr., who returned to the court after a long absence and exploded for 33 points. Such a performance from the talented guard was much needed following Cameron Payne’s injury, as he suffered a knock in practice and missed that game. Penarroya can also be encouraged by the improving performances of Bruno Fernando, while Tonye Jekiri is beginning to show the first signs of fatigue after returning to the demanding EuroLeague rhythm following several years away. As mentioned, Partizan’s resurgence has been fueled by much better defense, and their aggressiveness is reflected in the fact that over the last five games they rank fifth in points scored off opponent turnovers. In the same span, Partizan are the seventh-best team in the EuroLeague by NET rating, and their most important player, Carlik Jones, is still set to return, which further boosts the optimism within the squad.
Real Madrid have suffered three consecutive EuroLeague defeats, all on the road. They were beaten by Paris (98-92), Panathinaikos (82-81), and Dubai (93-85), significantly damaging their record, which now stands at 16-11. Fortunately for Los Blancos, other teams competing for playoff spots have also struggled recently, leaving Sergio Scariolo’s side tied for sixth place with 16 wins and 11 losses. However, the experienced Italian coach must be concerned about his team’s away performances, as Real Madrid have recorded just four wins and as many as ten losses on the road.
Real Madrid came closest to a win recently in Athens against Panathinaikos, where they practically handed the game to the home team with costly mistakes in the final minute. The Spanish club opened that game strongly, building a double-digit lead after the first quarter against a team in crisis. However, poor three-point shooting (28%) and a high number of turnovers (18, seven more than their opponent) proved decisive, nullifying their dominance on the boards (38-25) and an excellent performance by Alex Len (18 points). Against Dubai, Real Madrid led by 13 points during the third quarter but allowed their opponent to take a narrow lead heading into the final period. Once again, they looked completely out of sync in the decisive quarter, something that should not happen to a team of such quality. The only bright spots were Facundo Campazzo (24 points) and Edy Tavares (17 points, nine rebounds), but Real Madrid again struggled from beyond the arc (26%) and were careless with the ball, committing seven more turnovers than Dubai. Interestingly, Real Madrid are the fourth-best three-point shooting team in the league, yet they have recently been struggling significantly with their percentages from long range. They are the most dominant rebounding team in the EuroLeague, and many other statistical indicators suggest this is an excellent squad. However, their biggest problems remain their performances on the road, as well as the absence of Theo Maledon due to injury, which has significantly affected their playmaking and overall game control.
Partizan vs Real Madrid H2H
In the first part of the season, Partizan were defeated on the road by Real Madrid, 93-86. Real Madrid are currently on an eight-game winning streak against Partizan.
Injuries and Suspensions
Partizan cannot count on Carlik Jones, Dylan Osetkowski, Shake Milton, Mario Nakic, and Vanja Marinkovic due to injuries, while Cameron Payne is questionable. Jabari Parker and Miikka Muurinen are not in the coach’s plans. Real Madrid will be without Theo Maledon and Izan Almansa, while Gabriel Deck is listed as questionable.
Where to Watch Partizan vs Real Madrid?
Partizan vs Real Madrid Best Betting Tip and Prediction
Partizan have been playing better recently than earlier in the season, but it is still far from what the fans expect. The atmosphere at Partizan’s home games is no longer as intimidating for visiting teams as it once was, while Real Madrid arrive highly motivated to end their losing streak and prove that they have the character and quality needed to win on the road. The advantage in overall quality is certainly on the visitors’ side, and they also have a far more favorable injury situation than Partizan. Therefore, we expect Real Madrid to win by a margin greater than the stated handicap.
