Milano was defeated on the road by Baskonia, 82–72, and after the game, head coach Peppe Poeta spoke about the loss.
Milano trailed for all 40 minutes and never once held the lead—the only tie was at 0–0.
Peppe Poeta, the coach of the Italian team, commented on the reasons for the defeat:
“We didn’t play a good game. Our physical condition is not good—Ellis, Booker, and Tonut have a fever, and Lorenzo returned today. However, that’s not an excuse; we could have done better, but Baskonia’s energy didn’t allow us to compete the way we wanted,” Poeta said, and continued:
“We played the game without our rhythm. That’s something Ellis usually brings, but he had the flu and wasn’t in his best shape. Still, that’s no excuse. All credit to Baskonia, who played with great energy and caused us a lot of problems.”
Matteo Spagnolo played an excellent game against Milano, and Peppe Poeta—who has a great relationship with him—said:
“He didn’t surprise me. He’s my guy, like a little brother to me. I’m happy for him, he has a wonderful future ahead of him and he can definitely play in games like this.” Italian coach stated.
Poeta also commented on how it felt to return to the city where he once played:
“Obviously, my first loss as Olimpia’s head coach doesn’t make me happy, but I had a great year here. Thanks to the fans for welcoming me again.” he concluded.
Milano now has a record of 7 wins and 7 losses, while Baskonia has earned its 5th win of this EuroLeague season.
