BYU has added another international piece to its frontcourt, landing Serbian center Petar Ostojic. The news was first reported by Robby McCombs of Vanquish the Foe.
Ostojic is 19 years old and stands seven feet tall. He becomes the latest international addition to the Cougars ahead of the 2026-27 season. BYU is continuing to build depth and versatility around its frontcourt rotation.
The Serbian center began his development in the youth system of KK Mega Basket. The famous Serbian academy has produced stars such as Nikola Jokic and Nikola Jovic. Ostojic later signed his first professional contract with FMP Zeleznik.
During the 2025-26 season, Ostojic played across three levels of Serbian basketball. He appeared in the KLS with KK Dynamic and competed in the Adriatic Junior League. He also made several appearances in the ABA League with FMP’s senior team.
Across 38 games between the three competitions, Ostojic averaged 3.8 points and 2.6 rebounds. He shot 54 percent from the field. His experience across different levels gives him valuable experience for his transition to college basketball.
Ostojic’s biggest individual performance came at the 2025 FIBA U18 European Championship. He recorded 25 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks against North Macedonia. Serbia won that game 89-59, with Ostojic making a major impact on both ends.

The move to BYU also continues a growing Serbian connection within the program. Ostojic is the second Serbian player to join BYU during the Kevin Young era. He is also the second Serbian Cougar with experience at KK Dynamic.
Ostojic is expected to begin the season as a depth option behind Jaxon Kohler. Jakub Urbaniak will not play for BYU this season because of eligibility concerns. He is returning to his former club, Gran Canaria, in Spain.
Khadim Mboup is likely to serve as Kohler’s primary backup at center. However, Ostojic could earn more minutes as the season progresses. His size and development potential give BYU another intriguing option.
For the Cougars, the addition of Petar Ostojic provides valuable frontcourt depth. His international experience could also help him adjust quickly. BYU will now have another young big man to develop for the future.
