Shane Larkin is the Fenerbahce point guard who spent eight seasons at Anadolu Efes and left as one of the defining guards of the modern EuroLeague. He arrived in Istanbul in 2018 after five years in the NBA with Dallas, New York, Brooklyn and Boston, and a season at Baskonia, and he never went back.
At Efes he won back-to-back EuroLeague titles in 2021 and 2022, part of the third club in history to go back to back. He still holds the EuroLeague single-game scoring record: 49 points against Bayern Munich in November 2019. He has played for Turkey since taking citizenship, and remains one of the few American-born guards European basketball treats as its own.
The move across Istanbul in the summer of 2026 was his choice and it cost him. Larkin paid roughly $400,000 out of his own pocket to buy out the final month of an Efes contract worth close to $4 million a year, then signed with Fenerbahce for less money. His last season at Efes had been broken up by injury: 15.2 points in twelve appearances.
FAQ About Shane Larkin
Why did Shane Larkin leave Anadolu Efes?
He asked to go. After eight seasons, Larkin paid around $400,000 himself to terminate the final month of his Efes deal, then took a significant pay cut to sign with Fenerbahce in July 2026. Efes did not release him for free, and he did not wait out the contract.
How many EuroLeague titles does Shane Larkin have?
Two, both with Anadolu Efes, in 2021 and 2022. Efes became only the third club in EuroLeague history to win back-to-back titles, and Larkin was the starting point guard for both.
Does Shane Larkin play for Turkey or the United States?
Turkey. He was born in Cincinnati and played college basketball at Miami, but he took Turkish citizenship during his time at Anadolu Efes and has represented Turkey at the senior level since.
