The future of legendary Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio remains one of the main topics in Badalona, as he continues negotiations with Joventut regarding the extension of their partnership, though a final decision on whether he will stay has not yet been made.
After taking a year-long break for personal reasons, Ricky Rubio signed in the summer of 2025 for Joventut, the club he played for as a teenager. By his own admission, playing for Joventut allowed him to find the joy of competition once again.
Fans of his boyhood club are now waiting for a definitive answer.
“I have been in talks with Joventut for some time now, with the aim of bringing together the two approaches, mine and the club’s,” he explained, as reported by 3Cat.

Ricky Rubio avoided giving further details, although he clearly emphasized that his continued presence in Badalona goes beyond sports.
“Ultimately, I came to Badalona not only to play basketball, but to leave a legacy, and I would like to leave that legacy the way I believe it should be left,” he stated.
Should he stay, he would share point guard duties with Nicolas Laprovittola, one of Joventut’s major signings this offseason.
A legendary career
Ricky Rubio began his professional career 21 years ago, making his debut in Liga Endesa at just 14 years and 11 months in old for Joventut, where he spent the following four years.
He was selected as the 5th overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2009 NBA Draft, but he made the leap to the NBA in 2011 after two brilliant seasons with Barcelona.
Besides the Timberwolves, where he spent the majority of his time, he also played for the Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Rubio was also one of the leaders of the golden generation of the Spanish national team, which won numerous medals. Highlights include gold at the 2019 FIBA World Cup, golds at the 2009 and 2011 EuroBasket, and silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
