So far, the San Miguel Beermen haven´t been at the desired level as they have lost two out of their opening six matches. Their sizzling hot offense has been saving them from defeat. Their defense is pretty subpar at the moment and they are relying too much on their import player George King. Until their last game against TNT Tropang, their offense was clicking on all cylinders, but Tropa´s defense completely stopped them as they only managed to score 89 points including overtime. Their second loss came against the in-form NLEX Road Warriors, who completely outclassed them by 14 points, which is a sign for concern. All of the San Miguel´s victories came against the weakest teams in the league like Terrafirma, Titan and Macau. They also beat today´s opponents Converge in a high-scoring shootout (128:122). Their defense is currently lacking as they have no chance in the playoffs if they don´t tighten up defensively. Today, they don´t need a monster defensive effort to win because they are playing one of the worst defensive teams in Converge, who are allowing almost 110 ppg. This means we should witness a very entertaining and high-scoring match, which is exactly what the Beermen want. It should be a classic Filipino run and gun game with both teams easily surpassing the 100-point mark. The Beermen thrive in that kind of setting as they should be able to beat the FiberXers and redeem themselves for the unexpected loss against the heavily shorthanded TNT side.

Many fans and pundits are saying that Converge´s head coach Delta Pineda is not competent enough for the job and that he doesn´t know how to use his roster. Pineda openly admitted that his team´s defensive effort is non-existent – his coaching decisions are more than questionable, but playing defense is a matter of will and his players obviously don´t want to step up defensively. Today, they will try to outgun the powerful Beermen squad, but that will be an impossible task as they should get outscored and lose their fourth consecutive game.
Previous head coach of Converge Aldin Ayo was much better compared to Delta Pineda in our humble opinion. Delta Pineda is a politician and when he was coaching the Pampanga Giant Lanterns in the MPBL, he showed a lack of basketball knowledge as the team was masterminded by his assistants. We love governor Pineda, but Converge´s board need to find a new coaching solution because the FiberXers are extremely talented and have the quality to achieve big things if properly coached.
