Sarunas Jasikevicius, the head coach of Fenerbahce, spoke at the press conference following the EuroLeague Round 3 game against Crvena Zvezda.
Crvena Zvezda defeated Fenerbahce with a final score of 86–81. After the game, Sarunas Jasikevicius said:
“I congratulate Crvena Zvezda on the win. It’s hard to speak after such a terrible first half. We didn’t play like ourselves—every decision we made was wrong. We shot when we should have gone for a drive, and tried to attack when it wasn’t the solution. Crvena Zvezda’s desire and intensity were much greater than ours.
We tried to prepare the players for this game, because Crvena Zvezda came here in a difficult situation—with a new coach and two new players. It was clear they would be extremely motivated, and we tried to warn the team about that. Unfortunately, we didn’t do a good job in that regard,” said Sarunas Jasikevicius.
He highlighted rebounding as a major issue, along with defense.
“Rebounding, transition defense, low-post defense… we were poor in everything. In the second half, as always, we tried to come back. We looked better when we narrowed the rotation, but it wasn’t enough. It’s clear that we need more contribution from certain players. We need to put more pressure on them to help the team and give their maximum on the court. We didn’t have a good preparation period, even though it’s still the start of the season. Some players are playing less than they should. Honestly, I’m worried this could lead to injuries,” Sarunas concluded.
