Shane Larkin has officially parted ways with Anadolu Efes after eight seasons, with the Turkish club confirming the decision on social media alongside an emotional farewell video for their long-time captain.
Shane Larkin leaves Anadolu Efes after an eight-year spell in which he became one of the most important players in the club’s modern history.
The team captain spent most of last season dealing with injuries and was frequently sidelined, but returned for the final stretch of the Turkish Super League. However, Anadolu Efes were unable to secure another championship, as they were eliminated in the semifinals by Fenerbahce.
The American guard, who also holds Turkish citizenship, appeared in just 12 EuroLeague games last season, averaging 15.3 points and 4.2 assists per game. His domestic league numbers were similar, as he played 12 games and averaged 14 points along with 5.5 assists.
Shane Larkin joined Istanbul-based Anadolu Efes in 2018. Prior to that, he played for the Boston Celtics, Baskonia, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, and Dallas Mavericks, where he began his NBA career. He was originally selected in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks but never played for the franchise.
With Anadolu Efes, Larkin became one of the most successful players in the club’s history, winning two EuroLeague titles, three Turkish League championships, the 2022 Turkish Cup, and four Turkish Super Cups.
Fenerbahce has emerged as a potential next destination, setting up a possible major EuroLeague transaction between Istanbul rivals.

“When you joined us in 2018, we had no idea where this journey would take us. But from the very first day, it was clear that you did not come here just to play basketball – you were destined to take a much bigger place in our lives.
Together we dreamed, and those dreams eventually became reality. Countless trophies, victories, historic performances, and of course records, among which two EuroLeague titles stand out…
Today, we are not just saying goodbye to a basketball player, but to a role model for many children and athletes who will forever have a special place in the history of our club.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you have given us, Sugar Shane!” – Anadolu Efes stated.
