Reports from Spanish media this morning suggest that Jan Vesely will hang up his sneakers and retire at the end of the season.
Considering his long basketball career, which began in 2007, and his move to Partizan just a year later that served as a major stepping stone toward the NBA and later a EuroLeague title with Fenerbahce in 2017, it is clear that at 36 years of age he is in the final stage of his career and no longer has many serious challenges ahead.

According to Basketball Sphere, the intention of the βFlying Czechβ is to remain with Barcelona and sign a new contract on significantly reduced financial terms, if the club decides to offer him one.
If that offer does not materialize, he is prepared to retire and close the chapter of his playing career.
For many years he has been dealing with chronic back problems, and it is hard to remember the last time he completed an entire season without injury issues. In the 2025/2026 EuroLeague season, he did not miss games and appeared in 40 matches, averaging 8.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2 assists in 21 minutes per game. In the Liga Endesa, he missed a double-digit number of games, contributing 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist in 15 minutes per game.
Although he remains a desired player among fans of Partizan and Fenerbahce, Basketball Sphere reports that no offers ever arrived from these clubs, leaving Barcelona as the only realistic option.
Even though the club initially published a statement that Jan Vesely would retire at the end of the 2025/2026 season before later removing it from its official website, it only reinforces the idea that no new offers are expected.
As things stand, his upcoming games in the Liga Endesa, depending on how far Barcelona goes, are likely to be the final appearances of the βFlying Czechβ in his professional career.
