New conference, but same old story for Terrafirma. The Dyip opened their Governors´ Cup campaign with a solid 13-point win over the importless Titan Ultra Giant Risers but then suffered two heartbreaking and narrow losses against the NLEX Road Warriors and the Converge FiberXers. Against NLEX, they were down by a massive margin but only lost by a single point after winning the final frame 33:11. Three days ago against the FiberXers, we witnessed something similar as the Dyip were constantly behind by around 10-15 points in the second half. They once again rallied in the final canto and seriously threatened Converge, whose team managed to subdue them and walk away with a narrow two-point win. Following these narrow losses, the matchup against one of the main PBA powerhouses has come for them at the wrong time. It is very difficult to snap a losing streak against the star-studded Beermen, but Terrafirma have nothing to lose. Also, today´s clash will be very interesting because we will witness a face-off between two brothers – Jerrick Ahanmisi was traded from the Dyip to San Miguel and will take on his brother Maverick today in what should be a legendary clash.
Last time Terrafirma managed to upset the mighty Beer was more than two years ago with an All-Filipino lineup in the Philippine Cup. They are aware their chances are limited today, but as we already stated, they have nothing to lose. San Miguel are much better, maybe even a class above them, so they should be able to take a routine victory, but what we saw from San Miguel in their opener vs Macau makes us think they will not cruise to a win easily.
The legendary San Miguel Beermen equipped themselves with serious firepower during the offseason and opened the Governors´ Cup with a 123:109 mauling of the heavily shorthanded Macau Giant Pandas. At first glance, one would say that San Miguel absolutely dominated that match and opened this conference with an easy win, but we watched that game and the Beermen had a lot of issues against Macau. Firstly, they were without probably one of the best centers in the history of Filipino basketball, June Mar Fajardo, who is dealing with a slight injury after playing for his country in the last FIBA window. Secondly, the Beermen were unexpectedly without their head coach Leo Austria, who was ill and could not manage his team. San Miguel were losing for the entire first half as their defense looked extremely vulnerable and exposed against foreign scorers from the Giant Pandas. However, in the second half, they switched into another gear and outscored Macau in a wild game led by their import George King, who topscored that match with 30 points.
We are still in the early stages of the Governors´ Cup, so a blowout victory by the Beer seems unlikely, but is always a possibility. It doesn´t matter if Fajardo plays or not because his team will win this game, but we think they will encounter problems against the unpredictable Terrafirma side, who are better compared to the Macau Giant Pandas.

They also have June Mar Fajardo questionable, so the safest bet for this matchup is the Total Over. The Beermen can easily produce 120 points today, especially if they play without Fajardo, which means they will have to opt for a small ball type of basketball. On the other hand, the Dyip don´t possess the quality to keep up with them, but they have some excellent scorers and can definitely produce around 100 points against the unstable defense of San Miguel.
