A fantastic game was played at the Ranko Zeravica Sports Hall, where Mega defeated Crvena Zvezda, led by an outstanding Bogoljub Markovic.
The game started at an incredibly efficient pace, and not only did it begin that way — all 40 minutes were filled with beautiful play and offense-oriented basketball.
Crvena Zvezda scored 88 points through the first three quarters, and it looked as if, if they continued at that rhythm, they would completely overwhelm Mega. However, their defense failed to function properly, as they allowed 80 points in the same period.
Mega then tightened up defensively in the final quarter and, with seven minutes remaining, went on a 13–0 run to take the lead for the first time in a long while. Brilliant Bogoljub Markovic led them all the way to the finish, sealing the win with a decisive and-one play one minute before the end for the final score of 107–102.
Markovic recorded a double-double with 29 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding six assists. He was followed by Asim Djulovic with 19 points and four rebounds, while four more Mega players finished the game in double figures.
On the other side, Donatas Motiejunas scored 22 points, Jared Butler added 20, and Ebuka Izundu contributed 18 points.
This was Crvena Zvezda’s fourth loss in the ABA League, dropping them to an 11–5 record, tied for second place with Cedevita Olimpija. Mega now stands at 6–9.
Next week, Crvena Zvezda will host a EuroLeague double-week in Belgrade, facing Hapoel Tel Aviv and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
