Tomas Satoransky and Nicolas Laprovittola have confirmed reports that they are leaving Barcelona following the club’s defeat to Valencia in the Liga Endesa Finals.
Speaking to Spanish media after the loss, Tomas Satoransky reflected on his time with the Catalan powerhouse and admitted that the project he envisioned when he arrived never materialized.
“I thought we would have a project that would last for many years, that Nikola Mirotic and Sarunas Jasikevicius would stay for a long time. That was one of the ideas – that we would fight for trophies together, and that didn’t happen. It’s something people should pay attention to because it’s often forgotten. When Jasikevicius left, a lot changed. I never expected that. When Xavi Pascual came in, we started playing better, but we let one of the best coaches go,” the Czech guard said.
With his contract expiring this summer, Satoransky is set to move on from Barcelona.
“I want to believe that not everything is measured by wins, even though that’s how it works at Barcelona. I know I gave everything I had, and I leave with some peace of mind, but the feeling that we won only one trophy will always stay with me. That’s a disaster.”
The veteran guard also spoke about the back injury that has troubled him in recent seasons.
“There came a point when I simply couldn’t continue because of my back. It’s the worst back injury I’ve ever had, and it came at the worst possible time. My minutes over the last three years were not managed particularly well.”
Barcelona’s point guard rotation is also losing Nicolas Laprovittola, who confirmed his departure from the club.
“I’m very happy and grateful for all the love and support I’ve felt since the first day I arrived. I will always have special feelings for these people and for this team. I will always feel at home at Palau Blaugrana. Thank you to all the Barcelona fans. I have the best memories, and I will cherish them forever.
I leave with the feeling that we tried to give everything we had, but we couldn’t get it done. We looked for many different solutions, but we simply couldn’t overcome a great Valencia team,” the Argentine guard concluded.
