Barcelona has suffered an early blow in their pre-season preparations as key summer signing Tosan Evbuomwan has been sidelined with a shoulder injury.
The British forward, who is expected to play a crucial role under head coach Aleksander Sekulic this season, suffered a subluxation (partial dislocation) of his shoulder during the team’s training camp in Andorra.
According to reports from journalist Ernest Macia, initial medical assessments indicate that the player will be out of action for at least three weeks.
He misses the Super Cup and the start of the Euroleague
The injury forces Evbuomwan to miss Barcelona’s opening pre-season friendly against Andorra, where the squad is completing its traditional Pyrenean training block. The three-week recovery timeline also officially rules the British international out of the Catalan League, scheduled from September 9 to 13, as well as the Spanish Supercup on September 19 and 20.
Furthermore, Evbuomwan is facing a race against time to be fit for the start of both the EuroLeague and Liga Endesa regular seasons, presenting a significant early challenge for Barcelona’s depth and rotation.
From NBA episodes to championships and G League MVP honors
Evbuomwan arrived in Barcelona with high expectations following a notable stint in North America, where he accumulated 50 NBA appearances across four franchises: the Memphis Grizzlies, Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets, and New York Knicks. Throughout his NBA career, the versatile forward averaged 7.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game.
Despite playing a limited role for the Knicks last season with just five appearances, Evbuomwan experienced a breakthrough campaign in the NBA G League. He led his team to a G League championship and earned Finals MVP honors after delivering dominant performances throughout the postseason. While Barcelona anticipated leveraging his championship momentum and physical presence right from the start of the season, fans will now have to wait a little longer to see the marquee signing make his official debut in the Blaugrana jersey.
