Asvel have added another new face to their roster, signing Tremont Waters as the French club continues to reshape its team ahead of the upcoming season.
The Puerto Rico international becomes Asvel’s second signing in two days, following the arrival of Hugo Besson.
The back-to-back additions underline the club’s desire to continue building its roster despite the financial difficulties that forced Asvel to significantly change their original plans for the offseason.
Tremont Waters arrives after productive Puerto Rico season
Waters joins Asvel after an impressive campaign with Gigantes de Carolina, where he established himself as one of the team’s primary offensive creators.
The 27-year-old guard appeared in 30 games last season, averaging 16.3 points, 6.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game.
His ability to create for himself and others gives Asvel another ball-handler as new head coach Tony Parker continues putting together his roster.
Waters also brings considerable experience from different levels of professional basketball.
He has previously played for the Shanghai Sharks and Guangdong Southern Tigers in China, as well as Metropolitans 92 in France.
His career has also included several G League stops, with Waters representing the South Bay Lakers, Wisconsin Herd and Maine Red Claws.
At NBA level, he played for the Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors and Washington Wizards after being selected with the 52nd pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Asvel add another piece after Hugo Besson
Waters becomes the latest addition to an Asvel roster that has undergone major changes this summer.
The club’s latest moves come just one day after the arrival of Hugo Besson from Tofas, giving Parker another young perimeter option alongside the experienced Waters.
Asvel have also brought in Joel Bolomboy from Crvena Zvezda, Myles Cale from Barcelona, Both Gach from Bourg, Yves Pons from Andorra, Patty Mills from Tenerife, Nate Sestina from Milano and Marc-Owen Fodzo Dada from Nancy.
The club also added former NBA veteran Jae Crowder, who will make his European basketball debut after a long career in the United States.
Meanwhile, David Lighty recently extended his contract for another season, ensuring that Asvel will retain one of the most experienced players in the squad.
The combination of veterans and new arrivals will be particularly important for a team that has had to rebuild its plans in a very short period.
Financial problems changed Asvel’s original plans
Asvel entered the offseason with significantly greater ambitions.
The club initially assembled a roster that included established names such as Sylvain Francisco, Nick Weiler-Babb, Armoni Brooks and Daniel Theis.
However, Asvel were subsequently unable to secure the financial resources they had originally expected, forcing the club to make major changes before the new season even began.
Francisco eventually joined Panathinaikos, while Theis moved to Maccabi Tel Aviv. Neither player made an official appearance for Asvel.
Weiler-Babb was sent on loan to Crvena Zvezda, while Brooks continued his career with Valencia.
As a result, Asvel were forced to construct a considerably different roster from the one they initially envisioned.
Tony Parker begins new era at ASVEL
The club will also enter the new season with Tony Parker taking over as head coach.
Parker, who is also Asvel’s owner, will now have direct responsibility for the team’s performances after previously overseeing the project from an executive position.
He will therefore have to quickly build chemistry within a roster containing numerous new players.
The arrival of Waters gives Parker another experienced guard capable of handling the ball and creating opportunities for teammates.
After a turbulent offseason that forced Asvel to rethink their ambitions, the club continue adding new pieces as they attempt to build a competitive roster for the upcoming campaign.
