After one season with Real Madrid, Canadian forward Trey Lyles is returning to the NBA after agreeing to a one-year contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
His departure comes after a strong individual campaign in Spain, where Trey Lyles established himself as one of Real Madrid’s most reliable offensive options, averaging 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists across 42 appearances in his debut EuroLeague season.
Despite his contributions, Real Madrid fell short, ending the season without silverware.
Before moving to Spanish capital, the 29-year-old forward built a long NBA career, appearing in 650 games across stints with the Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings. Over that span, he averaged 7.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.

Real Madrid reportedly explored the possibility of extending his stay, but his financial demands ultimately proved too high, even for a club of Los Blancos’ stature.
Once it became clear that a new deal would not be reached, several EuroLeague teams monitored the situation, including Hapoel Tel Aviv, who had also shown interest in him during the previous summer.
However, Trey Lyles prioritized an NBA return throughout the offseason and has now secured it, joining a Minnesota Timberwolves team led by Anthony Edwards.
