Olympiacos had no trouble dispatching Zalgiris in Round 10 of the EuroLeague, cruising to a 95-78 victory in Piraeus.
Already in the first quarter, Olympiacos went on a 15-0 run to take a 26-9 lead, and it was clear from that point that there would be no suspense or drama tonight in Piraeus. Zalgiris responded with a 10-0 run of their own at one point in the second quarter, but that did nothing to disrupt Olympiacos’ rhythm, as the hosts continued to control the game and maintain their comfortable lead.
In the second half, the only uncertainty left was the final margin of victory for Georgios Bartzokas’ team. The lead hovered around 20 points throughout, and the final score read 95-78.
Unfortunately, the moment that defined tonight’s game was another injury suffered by Keenan Evans. The Olympiacos point guard has been battling serious injuries for two years that have kept him off the court, and just when it seemed he was ready to return, he went down again only two minutes after checking in. Cameras caught Evans mouthing “No way” in disbelief as his teammates helped him off the floor.
As for the top scorers, Tyler Dorsey led Olympiacos with 30 points on excellent shooting percentages. Nikola Milutinov added 16 points and eight rebounds, coming close to another double-double, while Sasha Vezenkov finished with 14. For Zalgiris, Sylvain Francisco scored 15 points and Moses Wright added 13.
Both teams now sit at 7-3 and will play their next EuroLeague games on Friday. Zalgiris heads on a long trip to Dubai, while Olympiacos travels to face Milano in Italy.
Unbelievable scenes in Piraeus.
