Olympiacos will be without Tyrique Jones for their upcoming preseason games in Cyprus after the center underwent a minor procedure to remove a cyst from his right thigh.
The procedure was performed on Thursday and is not considered serious. As a result, Tyrique Jones will not accompany Olympiacos to the Neofytos Chandriotis Tournament in Nicosia, where the reigning EuroLeague champions are scheduled to face Crvena Zvezda, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Aris.
Jones is expected to return to Olympiacos’ training sessions next week, although his exact timeline will only become clearer once he resumes basketball activities. The club is targeting the EuroLeague Super Cup in Abu Dhabi on September 18 and 19, but there is no certainty yet that Jones will be ready to participate.
Olympiacos and Crvena Zvezda meet again
Crvena Zvezda and Olympiacos will meet again in preseason after facing each other just five days ago in Crete, with the reigning EuroLeague champions claiming an 87–77 victory.
Jones scored three points in that game against his former club before undergoing the minor procedure on his right thigh.
Crvena Zvezda will also be without Nikola Djurisic, who continues to recover from a quadriceps muscle injury, while Dejan Davidovac remained in Belgrade because of a minor injury.
EuroLeague injuries continue to pile up
Jones is the latest EuroLeague player to deal with an injury concern during a preseason that has already produced several notable absences across the competition.
Barcelona have also been hit by injuries, with Yoan Makoundou becoming the second player on the roster to suffer a notable setback before the start of the new season. Makoundou is expected to miss approximately six weeks after aggravating patellar tendinopathy in his left knee.
Barcelona had already lost Tosan Evbuomwan after the forward suffered a shoulder subluxation. He was initially expected to miss at least three weeks, making his availability for the opening games of the EuroLeague season uncertain.
Panathinaikos are dealing with several injury concerns of their own. Kendrick Nunn is recovering from surgery after suffering a medial meniscus tear in his right knee, while Nigel Hayes-Davis is expected to miss around six weeks after fracturing the fourth metacarpal in his left hand.
Nikos Rogkavopoulos is also dealing with a left hamstring injury, while Moustapha Fall has suffered a hamstring strain.
Real Madrid have also had concerns over Gabriel Deck after the Argentine forward suffered a shoulder injury while playing for his national team. Deck has since returned to training, making his situation appear less serious than initially feared.
Virtus will be without Kevin Kokila for approximately four weeks after the center suffered a first-degree hamstring injury in his right thigh. Zalgiris have also been hit by an injury to new signing Saben Lee, who is expected to miss several weeks after suffering a hamstring strain.
