UNICS recorded a very important road win against Zenit in Game 6 of the VTB League semifinals, 78-73.
In this way, Zenit missed a second chance to qualify for the final, where CSKA Moscow is already waiting after eliminating Lokomotiv Kuban 4-1 in the semifinals. Zenit led 3-1 in this series, but two consecutive defeats have now complicated their situation, and they will have to fight for a place in the final in a decisive Game 7.
UNICS deservedly won this game. For most of the match, they were the team in control of the result. They often had a double-digit lead, but in the final quarter they slowed down, which Zenit took advantage of, and at one point with one minute remaining they even led 73-72. However, Marcus Bingham Jr. stepped up, first hitting a three-pointer to give UNICS the lead, and then later converting two free throws to seal the game and put an end to this matchup.
In the winning team, the most efficient player was Marcus Bingham Jr. with 20 points, while Paris Lee added 14. The only other player in double figures was Andrey Lopatin, who scored 12 points.
On the other side, Zenit were led by Andre Roberson and Xavier Moon with 15 points each, while Andrey Vorontsevich also had a notable performance with 12 points.
The decisive Game 7 of the series will be played on Thursday, with UNICS having home-court advantage.
