In Round 22 of the EuroLeague, Partizan found themselves in a tough situation at the ‘Hall Aleksandar Nikolic’, hosting Greek side Olympiacos. The victory went to the visitors, who won 104-66.
This marked the seventh consecutive loss for Partizan, the longest negative streak since their return to the EuroLeague in the 2022/2023 season, and as things stand, there is no sign of improvement for the Belgrade team.
Olympiacos now sits at 13-8, continuing their fight for the top of the standings, while Partizan has a disastrous 6-16 record and finds themselves at the very bottom of the table.
Partizan was without injured players Carlik Jones, Shake Milton, Jabari Parker, Mario Nakic, and Sterling Brown. Olympiacos was missing Monte Morris, Moustaphe Falla, and Keenan Evans, while Tyrique Jones did not play due to a contract clause preventing him from facing Partizan during the regular season.
It’s not like the atmosphere at Partizan’s games has been spectacular since the departure of Zeljko Obradovic, but the half-empty Pionir had a clear message even before tip-off. The Black and Whites in their current form don’t have the support of many fans, so even the famous roar from the stands couldn’t carry them to an upset against the Greek giant. That said, it didn’t look all that bad at first, as Olympiacos led only 20-17 after the first quarter.
However, after that, it was a complete collapse. Partizan’s squad under Joan Penarroya could hardly hit anything from outside, there was little team play, and very few defensively solid sequences. The Black and Whites were just 1-for-9 from distance by halftime, while on the other side, Sasha Vezenkov put on a show, scoring 18 points and leading the visitors into the break with Olympiacos already up by 21 (52-31).

If there had been any hope of a comeback for Partizan, it was crushed at the start of the third quarter when Thomas Walkup hit two three-pointers in a short span (4/4 at that point), and Sasha Vezenkov picked up right where he left off in the first half. Olympiacos’ lead kept growing and growing. After 30 minutes, Olympiacos was ahead 79-43, making the final quarter just a formality. The only question left was by what margin the visitors would celebrate, with no hope, no willpower, and not a spark to ignite Partizan’s fire.

The top scorer for Olympiacos was Sasha Vezenkov with 25 points and seven rebounds. For Partizan, Duane Washington stood out with 28 points for EuroLeague career high.
Next week features a double round of EuroLeague action, where Partizan will face Bayern and Hapoel Tel Aviv, while Olympiacos will take on Maccabi Tel Aviv and Anadolu Efes.
