Anadolu Efes hosted Milano in Round 9 of the EuroLeague, and the away team claimed the victory with a score of 97:93.
Before this round, Anadolu Efes was 15th in the standings with a 3-5 record, while Milano was just one spot above with the same record.
Anadolu Efes was without Vincent Poirier, Georgios Papagiannis, and Rodrigue Beaubois tonight, while Milano was missing only Lorenzo Brown.
The game started with both teams playing excellent defense, although it was largely the attack that, due to poor quality, contributed to the overall struggle. Throughout the first half, we saw an absolute tie.
The teams traded leads, with Anadolu Efes having a slight edge. The Turkish side was led by the incredible P.J. Dozier, who scored 17 points in the first half, while on the other side, Zach LeDay was the only one in double digits. After 20 minutes of basketball in Istanbul, the hosts led 36-33.

The third quarter was mostly evenly matched. However, the visitors from Milan played significantly better in the final stretch of that period. Offensively, they were phenomenal, and their defense didn’t look bad either. With a series of key plays, especially from Shavon Shields, Milano managed to pull away with a double-digit lead in the closing minutes of the third quarter. After three periods, the guests led 59-48.
It became clear in the final quarter that Igor Kokoskov’s team would not give up easily, as they gave their all to get back into the game. Thanks to some key three-pointers, they managed to do just that. With three minutes remaining, Milan led by only four points, and everything was still up for grabs heading into the final stretch.
From one possession to the next, we saw great offensive moves on both sides. With a heroic three-pointer from P.J. Dozier, Anadolu Efes managed to force overtime.
In overtime, both teams had their runs, but in the final moments. Anadolu Efes had a new shot for the win, but this time P.J. Dozier’s attempt was just slightly off the mark, sending the game into a second overtime.
After a thrilling second overtime, the players of Milano finally managed to break the resistance of the hosts and secure the victory – 97:93.
P.J. Dozier led Anadolu Efes tonight with 34 points, while Nick Weiler-Babb added 16. On the other side, Shavon Shields was the standout performer for Milano with 24 points, while Zach LeDay contributed 22 points.
