Olympiacos defeated Panathinaikos at home by a score of 102:92 in Game 3 of the Greek League Finals to take a 2-1 lead in the series.
Olympiacos were without Shaquille McKissic, Moustapha Fall, Monte Morris, Tyler Dorsey, Frank Ntilikina, and Donta Hall, while Panathinaikos were missing Cedi Osman and Kenneth Faried.
From the opening tip, it was clear that both teams were more than ready for the occasion, especially Evan Fournier, who scored 12 points without a miss in the first quarter and served as the driving force behind Georgios Bartzokas’ team. On the other side, Juancho Hernangomez and Mathias Lessort made sure Olympiacos’ lead did not grow too large, as the hosts led 27-21 after the opening period.
Although Olympiacos flirted with a double-digit advantage at the start of the second quarter, Dinos Mitoglou provided a spark for Panathinaikos. Lessort and Hernangomez then joined in, helping the Greens overturn the deficit. Tyrique Jones ignited the home crowd with a pair of emphatic dunks, while Nikola Milutinov also played an important role late in the quarter, allowing the Reds to regain the lead before halftime. The closing moments of the half were also marked by a concerning injury to Nikos Rogkavopoulos, as Olympiacos went into the break ahead 47-45.

With Kendrick Nunn picking up three quick fouls in the third quarter and Olympiacos steadily increasing its lead, Ergin Ataman was forced to look for a solution – and he found it in T.J. Shorts. The point guard scored eight consecutive points to keep Panathinaikos alive, but then Sasha Vezenkov and the sensational Fournier took over. Fournier, who seemed to be playing in a trance throughout the entire game, helped restore a comfortable advantage for the team from Piraeus (70-62).
Olympiacos’ stars continued to light up the scoreboard and were rewarded with their first double-digit lead of the night, while Jerian Grant was the only player providing any offensive spark for Panathinaikos. With two dunks by Milutinov, the second coming after two behind-the-back passes, the Reds fended off their rivals’ comeback attempts. Just when it seemed all but over, Lessort and Grant brought Panathinaikos back to life once again.
Thomas Walkup’s three-pointer put them away, before Vezenkov added another flashy assist to set up an easy Milutinov finish and bring Olympiacos one step closer to the title. In the closing stages of the game, Ataman was ejected after quickly picking up two technical fouls for protesting the officials following a non-called foul in his team’s favor.
Fournier led the winners with 28 points and 8 assists, while Vezenkov added 24 and Milutinov contributed 17. For the losing side, Grant stood out with 19 points.
Olympiacos now lead the series 2-1. Game 4, which will be played on Panathinaikos’ home court, is scheduled for June 10.
