Monaco is facing serious troubles. Not so much with the team itself, although things aren’t exactly rosy there either, as under Vassilis Spanoulis and Mike James, the squad aims for a Euroleague Final Four spot and potentially a title, but with the club as an organization.
It’s long been known that the Monte Carlo-based club has significant financial issues linked to former owner Aleksey Fedorychev. However, even the news that the principality is taking over the club, with the current management stepping down, hasn’t calmed tensions.

According to unofficial sources obtained by Meridian Sport, Monaco players have not been paid for at least a month and a half, further increasing discontent in the locker room, especially amid a string of poor results.
Sources close to the club report that if at least partial payments are not made by the end of today, the players could stage a form of strike. In that scenario, there is a real possibility that Monaco could field a junior team in their next LNB Pro A match.
Less than 20 days ago, Monaco was among the top four teams in the EuroLeague, but they have since suffered five consecutive losses and now sit at 15-12, good enough for 10th place, which leads to the play-in. In LNB Pro A, they are comfortably in first place with a 14-2 record, but questions remain about how the rest of their season will unfold given the current turmoil.
