The Sacramento Kings will obviously be chasing the first overall pick in this year’s draft after Zach LaVine injury.
They are the worst team in the NBA, stuck at the bottom of the Western Conference with a 12-44 record and clearly the league’s worst. With 14 consecutive losses and no way out of the slump in sight, the Kings in California have decided not to even try to escape it.
This season has long been written off, meaning the team’s best players will finish the season one by one, and everyone knows it. The first to start that inevitable list is Zach LaVine, who will undergo surgery on his right hand, effectively ending his season.
He has been struggling with this right-hand injury for a long time and has not fully recovered, so surgery is the best option to fix it completely. Until now, he didn’t have the time to undergo the procedure, missing many games while trying to rehab. Now, with the Kings not competing for anything and chasing the first pick in this year’s draft as the worst team in the NBA, there’s no reason to push for wins. Therefore, it makes sense for Zach LaVine to get surgery now, which he will do after the All-Star break.
This will allow him to finally address the injury, as he can’t contribute much to the struggling Kings anyway. Other players expected to finish the season early include Domantas Sabonis, with questions still remaining about DeMar DeRozan, and veteran Russell Westbrook will most likely rest as well, avoiding unnecessary wear.
LaVine has played well this season, though not at his full potential. In 39 games, including two off the bench, he averaged 19.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, shooting 48% from the field and 39% from three-point range.
