Giannis Antetokounmpo is on track to make a swift return to training after sitting out Greece’s recent friendly against Poland due to a calf injury.
The Milwaukee Bucks’ standout missed Greece’s initial friendly against Poland but is poised to rejoin the team’s activities soon.
Following Greece’s narrow 78:73 win over Poland, national team coach Vassilis Spanoulis provided an update on Giannis’ recovery.
“In the coming days, he will resume his regular training routine,” Spanoulis assured regarding his team’s cornerstone.
The ‘Greek Freak’ has been managing a calf injury since April 9th, impacting his availability during critical matchups in the NBA playoffs, including games against the Indiana Pacers, where Milwaukee faced an early exit.
Throughout the NBA regular season, Giannis Antetokounmpo showcased his prowess with averages of 30.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.
Giannis’ last international appearance was during FIBA EuroBasket 2022.
Greece is gearing up to host the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Piraeus from July 2 to 7, aiming to secure a coveted spot in the Paris Olympics. Greece will play against the Dominican Republic and Egypt. On the other side are Slovenia, Croatia, and New Zealand.
