Bogdan Bogdanovic shared his thoughts after Serbia’s defeat to the German national team in the FIBA World Cup final.
The captain of the “Eagles” emphasized that he remains proud of the team despite the loss, and Serbia has achieved tremendous success.
“When we started, no one believed in us. I am overjoyed for this group of guys and proud of them. A lot of hard work and time has been invested, and I am proud of everyone. That’s basketball, one shot goes in, another doesn’t. We could have played better defense, but sometimes you win, sometimes you lose,” said Bogdan Bogdanovic, and he added:
“Germany has been building this team for years and has shown that they are the best in the tournament. We don’t look at others; we look at ourselves, and I am proud of these guys. We were in a position to win, but it’s all part of the experience; we move forward.”
Many players were in tears after the loss, but Bogdan sees it as gaining valuable experience. As he points out, the significance of this silver medal will only be fully understood in the years ahead.
“That’s how it is the first time. The true extent of our success will only be apparent in a few years. We played in the final, we should be overjoyed and happy that we came this far.”
Bogdanovic concluded the FIBA World Cup as a member of the All-Star Five. He finished the championship with an average of 19.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game.
