Dallas Mavericks managed to defeat the New Orleans Pelicans by 125:120 in the second game of Martin Luther King Day.
Jason Kidd couldn’t rely on his star player Luka Doncic tonight, as well as Dante Exum. Additionally, Derrick Jones Jr. was unable to play due to an injury.
The Dallas Mavericks had a much better start in this home game, securing a significant +16 lead in the first quarter. However, the Pelicans didn’t give up, and with a 19:2 run in the middle of the second quarter, they managed to completely get back into the game. The first half witnessed a back-and-forth battle on the scoreboard, with neither team holding more than a 4-point lead.

The similar narrative continued in the second half, with the Pelicans taking the lead. However, they couldn’t manage to build a substantial lead. Tim Hardaway Jr. and Kyrie Irving played a fantastic game, keeping the Mavericks alive. The guests led for most of the second half, even holding an +8 advantage in the final quarter. But then, the duo of Hardaway Jr. and Irving stepped up, shifting the score in favor of the Mavericks. Three-pointers from Grant Williams and Josh Green also contributed to turning the tide in favor of the home team.
Pelicans had a couple of opportunities to get back into the game. First, Zion Williamson missed a free throw that could have tied the game, and then, with 5 seconds left, Brandon Ingram missed a three-pointer for the equalizer.
Kyrie Irving, with 42 points, and Tim Hardaway Jr., with 41 points, played an incredible game. In the New Orleans Pelicans’ lineup, Zion Williamson led with 30 points, followed by CJ McCollum with 23.
After this win, both teams have a record of 24-17, sharing the sixth spot in the Western Conference of the NBA.
