Head coach of Crvena Zvezda, Ioannis Sfairopoulos, spoke after the game against Bayern, regarding the EuroLeague and the 27th round.
Sfairopoulos aimed to boost his team’s chances for the play-in with a victory in Germany. However, it didn’t happen.
“We started excellently on both ends of the floor. We were focused on executing the plan. On the other hand, Bayern managed to come back in the last three minutes of the first quarter, and we didn’t continue at the same pace. Since then, they controlled the game, but we were always close. It was an interesting game, with momentum swings…
We came back to minus two, missed some three-pointers, layups… Bayern deserved the win, but we could have done better. We need to progress; I’m not satisfied with our offense tonight. It wasn’t enough. We need to improve in that aspect for the remainder of the season,” said Sfairopoulos.
Let’s remind, the Belgrade team opened the game with 11:4, maintaining a certain rhythm, but the opponent quickly managed to consolidate and catch up. As time passed, Bayern became more confident and eventually won without drama.
The Red-Whites sought to reduce the deficit in the final minute and prevent the German team from outplaying them convincingly, but Pablo Laso’s team celebrated with a plus eight, which is more than the plus six by which the Serbian team was better in Belgrade.
In the next round, Crvena Zvezda will visit Monaco, while Bayern will play against Anadolu Efes.
