Prometey defeated Aris by 95:67 in the EuroCup Round of 16, thus setting up a clash with French team Bourg in the quarterfinals.
From the very start, there was only one team on the court. Prometey opened the game with a 10:2 lead, making it clear to the Greek team who would have the upper hand in this game. By the end of the first quarter, the Ukrainian team’s lead continued to grow, with the score standing at 28:17 for Prometey after 10 minutes of play.
Nothing changed in the second quarter. Ronan Ginzburg’s team continued to dominate. It seemed that Aris had no chance in this game, as at no point did the hosts’ lead drop to single digits, leading to a halftime score of 51:32 in favor of Prometey.
It was clear right from the start of the second half that the question of the winner was settled. Ioannis Kastritis‘ team came out with practically the same energy as in the first half, so it was unrealistic to think they could in any way threaten Prometey’s passage to the quarterfinals.
Prometey won each of the four quarters. By the end of the third quarter, the score was 74:50, and the lead only continued to grow until the end of the game. An incredible situation occurred with 57 seconds left, when the game was already well decided. Issuf Sanon got injured during a rebound, twisting his ankle and could not put any weight on his leg.
Three players scored 16 points each for the winning team. Caleb Agada, Gian Clavell, and Ivan Tkachenko were the most efficient, while Ronald March scored 15 points. In Aris, Ronnie Harrell was practically the only one in form with 20 points, while Vassilis Toliopoulos scored 13 points with a very poor shooting percentage.
This match took place in Riga, with Prometey being the formal host, and they will visit Bourg in the EuroCup quarterfinals.
