Kevon Looney, a key player for the Golden State Warriors who has contributed significantly to their championship successes, might be nearing the end of his tenure with the team.
With only one year remaining on his contract, which will see him earn $8 million in the 2024-25 season, Looney’s future is uncertain due to the Warriors’ challenging salary cap situation. Tim Kawakami mentioned on the Warriors Plus Minus podcast that the team might consider releasing him to ease financial pressure.
Kevon Looney, 28, recently addressed this issue with his teammate, Draymond Green, on “The Draymond Green Show.” He acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his future with the team.
“The ball isn’t in my court. I don’t have full control over my destiny, so I kind of have to play the waiting game, control what I can control,” Looney said.
Drafted by the Golden State Warriors as the 30th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, leaving the Warriors this summer would be particularly challenging for Looney.
“I’ve been here my whole career. I don’t know nothing else. You always want to finish what you started and be somewhere for your whole career, but I’ve been in this business long enough to know that’s not realistic. I’m preparing myself for whatever. My family’s out here, the Bay’s been great to me. They treat me like family, I grew up here,”said Kevon Looney.
