Alba extends partnership with Marcus Eriksson, sespite the Swede not playing an official game since January 20, 2022.
The Berlin giants signed Eriksson in 2019 after he spent two seasons with Gran Canaria. The Swedish basketball player, born in Uppsala, began his professional career with Manresa before signing with Barcelona. However, his time with the Catalan giant mostly involved loan spells, which eventually led to the termination of the partnership in 2017.
Eriksson was one of the standout players in Aito Garcia’s team until he suffered a serious injury that kept him off the court for over a year.
Alba’s sports director, Himar Ojeda, told Zeit.de that the new contract for Eriksson is a win-win situation for both the player and the club.
“I sincerely hope and wish for him to return to the court soon. We wanted to give him a chance, which is why we offered him a one-year contract. It’s a win-win situation”.
Marcus Eriksson also spoke about his return to the court, as he was close to making a comeback late in the previous season.
“I was on the verge of returning to the court last season, but then another unfortunate situation occurred. I’m grateful for the new opportunity the club has given me” – emphasized the Swede.
Alba finished the past season in 16th place in the EuroLeague with only 11 wins and a whopping 23 losses.
